Shoys Beach is on the East End of St. Croix, conveniently located just a few miles outside of Christiansted. Quiet and secluded, Shoys Beach is a picturesque stretch of white sand overlooking the Caribbean waters and makes for a great getaway. Parts of the beach are a little rocky, but there are plenty of sandy areas as well. The waters are calm for most of the year and the bottom is generally sandy and grassy which makes for great swimming conditions. Shoys Beach is frequented by locals, part-time residents, regular visitors, and vacationers alike. There are no amenities at this beach, there is however plenty of shade from the seagrape trees and other foliage that lines the beach.
If you bring your snorkeling gear with you, there is some decent snorkeling, particularly along the easternmost part of the bay where there is a small reef (just look for the area where the waves are breaking). In the rocky areas, look for lobster, small eels and tropical fish, and in the sandy, grassy areas look for rays, conch and the occasional trumpet fish. The water is usually pretty calm, however a few waves can develop occasionally if one wishes to body surf. Shoys Beach is also a nice, long stretch of beach for walking or running.
Amenities
Parking is available, but there are no amenities at Shoys Beach. Bring plenty of drinking water, sun protection, food, and your beach chair or mat.
Directions
Head east out of Christiansted along East End Road. Turn left at the entry into The Buccaneer Hotel property. There will be two guard gates: the one straight ahead will take you to the hotel; the gate to the right is the entrance to Estate Shoys. Approach the gate to the right and let the guard know you are headed to the beach (they will ask for your name and then allow you access to this gated neighborhood). Follow the main road around until it dead ends, there you will find a gravel parking area on the right side of the road – park your vehicle here. Directly across from the parking area is the beach access path, marked by a small sign. Follow this short path through the bush to reach the Shoys Beach.
Restrictions
None. However, please be respectful of the surrounding private properties as Estate Shoys is a residential neighborhood.
