Cane Bay Beach is a popular hang out for locals and visitors alike. It is also a popular place for families to hang out with their kids, and dogs because it’s a one stop beach that has everything. With access to several bars and restaurants right from the beach, it makes for an easy and enjoyable beach day. There is plenty to do to keep you occupied. Bask in the Caribbean sun, play volleyball, rent some beach chairs and dive into a good book, or take a dip in the clear warm water. Scuba diving and snorkeling are popular pastimes here, as Cane Bay offers easy access from the shore.
This beach can get busy on the weekends with restaurants offering specials and live entertainment, and many families barbecuing or having birthday parties on the beach. We highly enjoying a meal or a cold cocktail at Eat @ Cane Bay. Cane Bay is also where the annual Mardi Croix parade and celebration takes place, a St. Croix tradition very similar to Mardi Gras.
Scuba Diving
Cane Bay is rated one of the top dive locations in the Caribbean, and deservedly so. There is a dive shop on premises that has been in business more than twenty years. They offer scuba instruction, guided shore dives, boat dives, night dives, as well as scuba gear rental and snorkel gear rentals. If you’re not already a certified diver, you’d be fortunate to discover it here, or get certified at this very special location. Dive the famous “Wall”, where the ocean floor turns into a steep cliff that drops more than 2 miles deep along the Puerto Rico Trench. The shelf and the wall are perfect for seeing many species of fish, turtles, moray eels, garden eels, shrimp, squid, lobster, crabs, seahorses, reef sharks, maybe even the occasional dolphin or humpback whale if you’re lucky, and so much more! This is also home to a grant-funded coral restoration project. Not ready to try diving? Rent some snorkel gear and swim out to the living coral garden with both hard and soft corals.
Amenities
Within walking distance of Cane Bay Beach are three restaurants and bars, two of them right on the beach, offering lunch, dinner and drinks. Chair rentals are available right on the beach. In addition to the dive shop where you can rent dive or snorkel gear, there are kayak tours and rentals nearby, as well as horseback riding tours.
Parking is available in the small parking lot across the street, but street parking is acceptable too. Restrooms are available to patrons of the restaurants.
